New forms of technology, such as Virtual Reality (VR), are becoming ubiquitous, sophisticated and accessible to consumers, and increasingly explored by the entertainment industry. The familiarity and affordability of VR systems signal a new future for digital health applications. In this talk Dr Naseem Ahmadpour and Dr Anna Janssen will discuss recent advances in VR in medicine and healthcare and present examples from recent research.
Presenter bios
Dr Naseem Ahmadpour is a senior lecturer in Design Lab, The University of Sydney. Her research is interdisciplinary and broadly focused on design for health and wellbeing. Her recent research investigates how emerging technologies can empower individuals to self-regulate their response to pain, stress or anxiety. Naseem is passionate about the future of digital health systems and how we can leverage technologies such as virtual reality to support our health and wellbeing. Her research is aimed to inspire new designs that help us better engage with activities that improve our quality of life.
Dr Anna Janssen is a digital health researcher in the Research in Implementation Science and eHealth Group (Faculty of Health Sciences). She has also undertaken industry research fellowships through the Capital Markets Cooperative Research Centre and the Digital Health Cooperative Research Centre. Anna has a broad interest in the design and use of digital technologies in healthcare, and their effect on health in general. She has been involved in a number of digital health research projects, including investigating methods for engaging health professionals in online forums, implementing patient portals in paediatric care, exploring the impact of technology on oncology MDTs in Western Sydney and the use of virtual reality in cancer care.
